Cheap Flights from Los Angeles to EuropeHandling close to 60 million passengers annually, the Los Angeles International Airport (often called by its airport IATA code: LAX) is the sixth busiest airport in the world. An estimated 59,000 jobs are located near or on the airport with another 408,000 jobs linked to the airport spread throughout the greater Los Angeles area. The airport was officially opened in 1930, but did not start commercial airline service until 1946. It is a hub for American Airlines, Alaska Airlines and United Airlines. LAX serves 87 domestic and 69 international destinations around the world. One of the most famous features of the Los Angeles International Airport is the Encounter Restaurant. It was designed by Ed Sotto and Ellen Guevara for Walt Disney Imagineering. Built in one of the most popular architectural styles of the mid-century (known as Googie) the restaurant is 70 feet above ground and resembles a flying saucer which has landed on its four legs. (Fun fact: This particular style was also the inspiration for architecture shown on The Jetsons.) Located above the restaurant is an observation deck which is open on the weekends from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. LAX has four parallel runways, 163 gates and 9 terminals. All terminals are served by a shuttle bus. InformationAddress Telephone: 310 646 5252 Email: infoline@lawa.org
