Travel in style on vacations to fashion-forward Western Europe

Aside from the major details of planning a vacation to Europe, such as when to travel, where to stay and what to see, many secondary factors need to be considered before embarking on a trip overseas. Visiting an unfamiliar country may take some research beforehand to learn the culture, style and climate of a destination. People who book cheap flights to Paris, a mecca of forward-thinking fashion, will blend in best by following these style "don'ts" before arriving in the city.

While the fanny pack is functionally useful, fashion-wise, it's a no-no in the City of Light. Resting on an area of the body that many individuals are somewhat sensitive about, the multi-purpose belt does not look flattering on anyone, and is listed as the number one item to avoid on a survey conducted by Frommer's. Alternative options, like a money belt or small cross-body bag, are useful and stylishly acceptable.

Essentially, the purpose of sandals is to allow feet to breathe during warm seasons. When travelers slip on socks before strapping sandals to their feet, they are committing the second worst travel fashion faux pas, according to the travel news provider. Tourists who may not want their toes exposed while passing through airport terminals have a wide selection of closed-toe, lightweight and fashionable shoes to choose from before resorting to the socks and sandals combo. Slip-on shoes, such as TOMS products, are not only comfortable and easy to take on and off, but with each purchase made, the company provides a pair of shoes to children in under-developed countries.

Just because convertible pants take up less room in a suitcase than separate pairs of shorts and pants, it does not make them an essential travel item. Pants that detach at the knees with a zipper and transform into shorts may subject tourists to unwanted stares from the Parisian fashion moguls. While the idea may be suitable for a safari through a tropical rainforest, where temperatures may significantly vary throughout the day, wearing them on a sightseeing stroll along the River Seine is unnecessary. If unpredictable weather is in the forecast, travelers can be prepared by carrying a day pack and tossing a pair of shorts or pants in the bag.

A traveler may think that all-white sneakers possess a summery feel for a June vacation to Paris, but in reality, all that walking will do no good to what was once a clean white shoe. Sticking with darker-colored footwear will prevent tourists from dirtying the few pairs of shoes they might have brought along with them on their flights to France, and will ultimately prevent them from committing a Frommer's fashion don't: bright white sneakers with jeans.
