Unfurl the human senses in Frankfurt, Germany

Jan 24, 2012
A fairly overlooked landmark of Germany is the Neo-Classical mansion, Schloss Freudenberg. Located near Wiesbaden, the manor provides a sensorial experience for adults and children alike. Families can book cheap flights to Frankfurt for a one-of-a-kind experience at the interactive museum that can help to awaken all of their senses.

The journey into the establishment is a rather unusual one - narrow wooden plank stairs that lead up to the front door take the place of actual steps. One of the windows on the front of the building is boarded up, and as guests enter the lobby, they witness walls with exposed layers of pink, pale green and gray paint. The purpose of this unsightly beginning is to "unfurl the senses and thoughts," as the guide to the Freudenberg building states.

Guests who visit the museum can participate in over 80 experience stations, engaging their sense of sight, sound, smell, touch and thought. They also will perceive the way "the lungs breathe, the blood pulsates and the body vibrates," according to the guide.

The building is adorned with black and white discs, which rotate on the walls, steel bells suspended from the ceiling and other bizarre items. The building is surrounded by over 39 acres of land, where an Aeolian harp rests on a hillside next to a stone labyrinth, along with a path made of stone-smooth pebbles, bricks, stones and wood.

The property's interior and exterior will keep visitors constantly stimulated and encourage them to use more than just their eyes and ears to fully engage in nature and other activities around them. Book cheap flights to Germany and experience all that the 20th century mansion has to offer, including its Dark Bar, where guests eat with a complete absence of light.
