Reykjavik
February 1 - February 29, 2012

This annual food festival is a highlight of the Icelandic events calendar, with the focus being on great food and drink. The festival features both Icelandic and international chefs gathering together to showcase regional specialties combined with an international flare. The festival offers the chance to taste such specialties as well as sit in on classes to pick up some tips from the pros.

Beer Day
Reykjavik
March 1, 2012

With beer only becoming legal in 1989, it is only natural that Iceland holds a day to honor the historic beverage in order to make up for lost time. The day is centered on the sudsy drink, with huge street parties, pub crawls and late night tom-foolery. The day also acts as a way for local bars and restaurants to showcase their local brews and specialties.

First Day of Summer
Throughout Iceland
April 21, 2012

Iceland is a country that experiences long, dreary winters with some days that don’t see the light of day so the onset of summer is a highly anticipated day throughout Iceland. The country celebrates by having parades and festivals complete with live music and entertainment.

Summer Solstice
June, 2012

The Summer Solstice welcomes visitors to join in the celebration of the midnight sun on the longest day of the year. The solstice is the apex of a long month of endless sunshine. Keep in mind that this nation also has an equivalent month of perpetual darkness. This knowledge allows the people of Iceland to appreciate the non-stop sun and gives them an unnatural capacity for fun and wild partying. Enjoy it!

Sailors Day
Reykjavik
June 3, 2012

On the first Sunday of every June, the people of Iceland come together to celebrate sailors and the sea. This is the only day of the year that every single ship of Iceland is docked. People from all over the country come to have fun with rowing competitions, strong man competitions and watch a simulated rescue mission. This is a fun event for the whole family.
