Oktoberfest
Munich
September 18 - October 3, 2010

The Oktoberfest is a sixteen-day festival held each year in Munich, Germany during late September. With some six million people attending each year it is easily the world's largest fair as well as being the most famous event in the city. This festival has become a very important part of Bavarian culture. Many other cities around the world hold Oktoberfest celebrations, modeled after the Munich event. The festival takes place on an area named the Theresienwiese (field, or meadow, of Therese) often called d'Wiesn for short.

Munich's Christmas Market (Christkindlmarkt)
Munich (Marienplatz)
November 26 - December 24, 2010

The air is filled with the smell of gingerbread, mulled wine and roasted chestnuts at this Christmas market, where row after row of colorful stalls lines Munich's Marienplatz. The festive tradition of Munich's Christmas Market dates back to the 14th-century. The Bavarian capital is covered in thousands of twinkling fairy lights, bauble-laden branches and carol singers on every corner. This makes for a perfect atmosphere to get into the Christmas spirit and do any last minute shopping.
